To Soap Opera or not to Soap Opera?

That is the question. Soaps have been an integral part of daytime television for decades. The first TV soap was called Faraway Hills and aired in 1946! Many of soaps that started in the 1960s like General Hospital are still on today. So how about you? Do you dig soaps? Which ones?

No one in our family can stand soaps. The ones famous in the UK are Eastenders (which has been running 28 years) and Coronation Street (which has been running 53 years), but I don't understand why anyone would want to watch such miserable gits livings such miserable lives.
I'm currently hooked on Coronation Street but that's it. Many years ago I used to watch Edge of Night and Another World. Never got into General Hospital or any other... too much drama.
I absolutely hated them, until I married an American!
Then still had no understanding...until, I found out some of the most 'cool' people
LOVE them, and watch them.

I got hooked later in time, for 2 years....For Americans, they find some 'normality' in watching.
Guess that's why they really did 'invent' them....No not really my-cup-of-Tea.
I stopped watching as soon as I found I was hooked too.

'Guiding Light' was America's longest Soap Opera.

Started on Radio, then went to T.V. when they came into being.

Ran 72 years!!!! can you believe that?

'Soaps' aren't my scene.

Kinda-soaps, 'The Young Doctors, 'Dr Kildare' & 'Ben Casey, ' I really loved when they were on.
