The Handmaid's Tale is a dystopian drama series based on the 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood. It is currently streaming on SBS On Demand. It is set in the United States after birth rates have dropped dramatically. A fundamentalist group has taken over, stripping women of their rights and forcing those who are fertile to become 'handmaids' who must bear children for elite men.

The series has been nominated for a number or awards. If you have seen it and read the book, do you think the show is as good as the book?

I haven't seen this series yet, nor have I read the book but I'm am excited about it nonetheless. We don't have a lot of world renowned authors in Canada, so I celebrate every time a movie or TV show is based on a Canadian author's work :D It's a big deal!
I have seen the series on TV but not read the book.
I have been told the book is different however I thought the TV series was brilliant and well worth watching and something different for a change.
