If you grew up in the late '60s, it's difficult to think of anyone but Adam West being Batman. However, since the late 1980s, there have been about seven Batman movies with Batman portrayed as a much darker character.
To you, is Batman the campy Adam West character from TV or the Dark Knight from the movies?
I still don't believe any of the movie Batmen have nailed the role; Christian Bale is probably the best so far. Adam West got his unique role from the start and made it such a strong and memorable character.
I think for most people the 'real Batman' is their first Batman. For example, the first Batman movie, starring Michael Keaton, was my first real experience with Batman outside of comic books. To me Michael Keaton is the 'real Batman'.
No, it's not the real Batman, but I love it all the same. The campy Batman was never like the comics, but you know what, it worked anyway and I loved the Joker and the Penguin. And I can still watch it 40 years later, so I say, gold star to them! I like Dark Knight but only because of Heath's Joker, take away that and it's a little boring (like the last one)
