I am learning all the time. The tombstone will be my diploma ~ Eartha Kitt.

While there are lots of shows for children and teenagers with a male hero or an ensemble cast, there don't seem to be as many tv shows with a girl (as opposed to a grown woman) as the main character. One that springs to mind for me is the British teen drama/comedy Sugar Rush. How many tv shows like that can you think of? Which would you recommend?

Sugar Rush, lesbian tv show, tv shows with young women, tv shows with girl heroes

Buffy the vampire slayer - my all time favourite!!
I loved it too.
I go looking for shows with young girl heroes to watch with my daughter. Hmm... Buffy, The Sarah Jane Adventures (at least at first Maria is kind of the main character, then the boys get a bigger part), Dance Academy, Wolfblood, Peg Plus Cat, Naturally Sadie, Lizzie Maguire, Girls in Love, Life with Boys, Punky Brewster (that's going back a while).

Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Clarissa Explains it All
Buff the Vampire Slayer
Orphan Black - a slightly older set of many female protagonists. Loving it just now.
For very young girls, Dora the Explorer would be a good role model as she's smart, sassy and adventurous. For older children the various series of Round the Twist had some quirky but strong female characters.
