Sanctuary is a sci-fi/fantasy series created by Damien Kindler and Amanda Taping. It stars Tapping as the character of Helen Magnus, a 157 year old woman who was once the lover of Jack the Ripper. She runs a sanctuary for beings called Abnormals. These are people/creatures with special powers or beastly features (werewolves, vampires, the power of invisibility, etc).
Sanctuary started as a web series, but quickly made it onto television. Amanda also runs a charity based off the series, called Sanctuary for Children.
I really enjoyed what I've seen of Sanctuary. Unfortunately, I have not watched the series through, only a spattering of episodes here and there. When I first saw it, I honestly didn't think I would care for the show at all. Carter, played by Amanda Tapping, was my least favourite character on Stargate SG-1 but I really liked Magnus, Tapping did an amazing job with this character. I also really liked the world created in Sanctuary, it was a great show that should have had many more seasons.
I loved Sanctuary when it first started. I think Amanda Tapping is brilliant in it (I lover her with a British accent). I watched the first two series, but then halfway through series three it went on hiatus, and I never found out when it was coming back on again. Once I did find out I'd missed a lot of episodes, so didn't bother to catch up.
I watched all the seasons and was sorry to see it end. In the early episodes the effects are a bit dodgy, which is understandable given that it was a web series, but they got better. I loved seeing a female lead who was a mature woman who could take care of herself. The storylines were interesting and the acting was pretty good. I think it really found its feed in season two and just got better from there.
