Television (75)      Judi Dench (1)      Age (1)
Veteran actor Judi Dench turns 80 next month. She states she has no plans to take things easier or change her work load, stating that "age is just a number."

Would you agree with her in regards to acting on film or television?

I agree 100%. We can't have teenagers playing the roles Judy plays, it'd be ridiculous!
...........and v.v. of course!

Obviously it matters in terms of which roles you play, but otherwise I don't think age should be an issue. As long as you are fit enough to keep up the rigour, then I think it is great for such wonderful actors to continue. Older actors have so much acting experience, and bring so much to the characters they play. But a young can be equally as good. It is talent that matters, not age.
For her that's great.

For others they tend to act all cranky and stuff.
Look at Harrison Ford, he is one cranky old man.

Judi Dench is even old enough to be my Mother!!! so as long as she can act,
not a problem...

It is better to leave sometimes before it leaves you.!
Yes. It can work against you, or with you. As with Judy Dench, age had made her more of an established actor in my eyes. Equally, I think Meryl Streep is fantastic.
Yes I would agree with her comments, except to say that nothing can beat experience and that comes with the years put in.
A fantastic actor who it is always a privilege to watch.
Long may she bless us with her performances.

I think it depends on the role as obviously Judi couldn't play a teenager or young woman. Age, however, shouldn't matter with more mature roles. I think when Judi Dench and her cohorts Maggie Smith and Helen Mirren retire it will be a sad day as the standard of actors coming through nowadays is very low generally.
I would add Dame Eileen Atkins, & Phyllida Law to that list.

Not at all!

Provided the role being played is age-appropriate, it's fine by me!
Look at the roles Sir John Gielgud played into his dotage!
Sir Derek Jacobi is doing the same thing! So too, Sir Michael Gambon.

You just CANNOT replace experience in the field of acting. It just seems to get better as they age!

Long may they reign in each medium!
I agree with her. I enjoy watching older actors and age means nothing when you're good at your craft.
